Christie's said Monday that a Hermes iPhone case designer handbag smashed a world online auction business record in Hong Kong.
The auction firm did not identify the buyer of the stands out as the skin Birkin Bag in fuschia with 18 karat gold & diamond hardware. It sold for one 72 million Hong Kong dollars ($222, 219).
The previous record was define at a U. S. auction this year for another Birkin Bag, in teal crocodile skin, that sold for $203, 150.
The Birkin Bag was created for and named after British diseuse Jane Birkin. It's famous for carries a price tag in the thousands of dollars and a years-long waiting list.
The bag was formerly one of more than 300 that Christie's put on the block in Hk, which has emerged as a global online auction business centre thanks to wealthy mainland Offshore.
Christie's said a black Birkin Bag that's scheduled to go on the entire block later in the same online auction business may sell for even more than Monday's record price.
