"A well-turned phrase, constructed with precisely chosen keywords and phrases, is like a scarf, made from finely stiched cloth; both depend on craftsmanship, " mused Hermès Artistic Director Pierre-Alexis Dumas concerned with Thursday night at the brand's repent de Sèvres store on Paris's Left Bank. The event was held honoring the French philosopher Roland Barthes, that could have been 100 this year.
When Barthes scholar Eric Marty first went up to Dumas about participating in centennial parties, Dumas immediately thought to create a selective edition of the brand's iconic man made fibre scarf inspired by Barthes' observed essay "A Lover's Discourse: Partie, " which has long been a must review literary Francophiles lost in prefer. "A scarf is very intimate, " said Dumas, "it absorbs aromatic perfume and your scent and expresses experience and memory. "
French logo artist Philippe Apeloig, who configured the collaborative scarf, was a clear choice, according to Dumas. "Barthes' writing is very image; his ideas on fashion, as well as photography have inspired my time of graphic artists. He developed a special text layout for each website page of 'Fragments, ' so each first idea was to use typography, but that was too obvious. Eventually I blacked out all the article, turned the words into graphic chunks, and reproduced each page inside the original order like a mosaic. " The result, a graphic overview of "Fragments, " resembles a musical rating, a piece of morse code, hieroglyphics which has a diagram of digital circuitry. So simple both a thing of beauty and a source of soothe for those waiting for the phone to calll.
